Today several members of the Community-led Design (CLD) Group met with members of the Waitemata Local Board including Chair Pippa Coom, Shale Chambers and Adriana Avendaño Christie and Richard Northey, plus Council Officers from many departments including Parks and Reserves, Panuku, Communications, etc.
We presented our Powerpoint (attached below) to background our CLD work to date and some of the ways we think we could best continue to represent our Community going forward. Technically, the CLD Group has completed our work as originally defined by the WLB to; create a design and a budget via a CLD process for the site at 254 Ponsonby Road. However, because we have had such great engagement and participation, we feel we must now continue to represent the community and see through the development of Ponsonby Park into a reality.
The main hurdle will be in accessing the necessary funds to do so in an environment that has many competing calls on the public purse. Fortunately for Ponsonby Park, it ticks many of the boxes Council is trying to address; active lifestyles, building social capital, reducing runoff into the harbour, the one million trees campaign, diversification, support for ‘densification’ of our neighbourhoods etc.
Our main aim now is to create a regular and transparent communication pathway between the WLB, Council Officers and our CLD group, so we can keep the community well-informed and up to date.
We look forward to working with the Council teams and to creating a wonderful community asset in Ponsonby Park that caters for everyone in our community as well as our visitors and one that we can all be deservedly proud of.
